1968 – Family moved to 172 Livingston Street a block away – to own first home.
1968 Buick Skylark Classic blue station wagon became family’s new car.

While New Haven Public School “Worthington Hooker School” was K-6 or K-8 was across Canner Street from our house I started school at Yale Divinity Nursery School – as older sisters then began at private school Foote School in Kindergarten and 1st Grades. We all shifted to “Hooker” the next year.
Both sets of grandparents lived near enough to regularly visit twice a month on weekends. While for my mom’s parents that meant a drive south on I95 to Cos Cob in Greenwich. The apartments my dad’s parents had changed over these years – details need be found for years where, while visiting Meriden, CT was very regular.
On my mom’s side I was near the 25th or 26th of 28 grandchildren. Many Ivy School families.
On my dad’s side there were 13 grandchildren. Most cousins of blue-collar families.
My mom was Albertus Magnus graduate.
My dad was Holy Cross College, and University of Connecticut Law School. He had, though, been accepted to Yale University for undergrad but chose Holy Cross.
My parents were very involved in community in 1960s with New Haven Jaycees, the first New Haven Special Olympics, an ARTS FESTIVAL ON THE GREEN my mom ran, and likely other specific causes. My dad did serve as President of New Haven Jaycees, and later Connecticut Chapter of Jaycees.
Our public school just across the street had diverse international enrollments of near 70 to 80 nations had regular student body representation – from young families were studying at Yale.
1971 – January – my younger brother was born.
1971 – Christening day at St. Joseph’s I discerned respect my maternal grandfather got from Monsignor of being of the Light and I proceeded to find he “Arthur M. Menadier” outside immediately after service and to ask him to take on teaching me, then near 6 years old, to learn to become like him. 1972 forward these 2 then set upon marrying each other did haunt me for years as like follow on further for questioning my opinions as they schemed and to then spirited LET’S ASK THAT CHARMING YOUNG BOY FROM THE SCHOOL YARD to newly respond on their new strategies to become yet the first husband and wife to each get own named presidency.
WATERGATE – to others was one thing while to me I always knew it started with adults seeing just cause to investigate Democrats’ HQ – even to I knew from voices concerned around President Nixon of pondering upon how yet due he botched a justified investigation he couldn’t reveal the justification due due process protected those in a real earlier incident, as minors, from being revealed. I grew up, from these 3 incidents coincidental, to being near an only person actually fully in the know, and upon so much others were getting just spin upon that was at times truly of miscarriages of justice.

1970s later – Our family became the 2nd Catholic family admitted membership to exclusive New Haven Lawn Club a dining, tennis, squash, and swim club – the 1st Catholics was my Dad’s Law firm senior partner an Italian descended family – we became notable as yet the first American Irish Catholic family admitted. My dad later in serving as chair of membership was who admitted first family with African American descendency in family.
1970s – through mom’s sister & husband adoption I became of a black male cousin in Cambridge, Mass.
1970s – Little League ventured but then as could decide if to be “John” of “Peter” I chose to stop playing organized baseball – while my dad’s enthusiasm still too high of he had sought towards playing shortstop for the Red Sox but got injured in first college Holy Cross season game after got on team coached by Babe Ruth’s former coach. As I exited as “J…eter” said my name after a solid double – I afterwards spiritually connected on if “JETER” was even any one’s real name with a young father quite interested in me passing on offered regular baseball blessings to his then near 3 years old 2 years old son – now known as Derek Jeter yet of playing of #2 was optioned when yet 2 years old.
1970s – in being mentored by my grandfather – in his NYC career “ART” Menadier – I shared interests in his hobbies and especially as he then living near by his photography hobby. We took day trips to explore and photograph New England scenes.
1970s – I took up own interest in road bikes – bicycling for performance – to which in early 1980s I bought my upgrade from steel commuter bike to thin wheeled light Panasonic DX4000 I then upgraded and set up for riding and training to ride – tour like 100 miles each way to Massachusetts for YMCA Camp Becket reunion years were then years my younger brother was experiencing away summer camp as I had in 1977 & 1978. I stayed to thinking maybe I would solo ride across America – but time and responsibilities never opened up a desired window. Instead of seeking new music or new movies I tended to be more mechanically curious and apt to invest in tools and learn to take apart and reassemble – even fix many things, like bicycles, in our basement. In my two summers a camper for a month I learned canoeing and sailing – woodcrafts – about nature – even hiked a week in the White Mountains.
1977 (7th grade year?) – I entered and competed in East Rock Community School oratory contest with Franklin D. Roosevelt DAY OF INFAMY declaration of war speech – albeit to 2nd while I didn’t really want to take a declaration of war citywide as 1st place to have required.
In oratory preparation my 7th grade table mate Steve Brennan asked me if I was ready – and then IF I WAS READY TO COMPETE IN HAWAII – to which incidentally in spirit of before Google we connected with a “B.O.” of Hawaii but 4 years older – an answering of interest in competing in presidential oratory. Such now today known as Barack H. Obama – actually 4 years older to the day August 4th.
In same 7th grade, with a collaborator Fred Arbour, we did win school Science Fair with a working 3’x5’ diorama of a reservoir with water wheel of hydro-electric power example – in likeness to Lake Whitney Dam of where Eli Whitney foundry for interchangeable musket parts used a waterwheel.
As graduated Middle School my next stop was Wilbur Cross High School but a block from my home – while yet was less than 100 yards from our family’s first apartment on Orange Street. Cross had a reputation for yearly having an upper track college bound – even to the Ivys – as neighbors, as were often children of Yale Professors – even associated to diplomatic service.

His uncle Jonathan Bush over years was also a member of New Haven Lawn Club – I don’t know if as far back as when I played on club tennis team – and dealt with team ladder.
1983 – Graduated High School – after lettered in Tennis and co-captain – and was tri-co-captain of swim team – was on Literary Magazine staff, and a yearbook photographer, and as participant in Model United Nations.
1983 – Started Villanova University – took Modern Standard Arabic for language requirement and as it the first year Nova had a Middle East Studies Department. I also for a last math requirement yet studied PASCAL language for computer programming on a main frame. I became involved in STUDENT UNION did plan school social events, and as well the ASSOCIATION OF COMMUTING STUDENTS. I studied for graduating in 1987 with a BA in Economics, and an undeclared Philosophy minor – of did accrue necessary credits.
1980s – Summers were mostly spent hired into carpentry jobs – especially as took to summers from college building new homes on Block Island – of the Town of New Shoreham an island of Rhode Island, I first worked a summer at as a bike & moped mechanic.
1982 – It was a first snowfall of season and enough, barely to get out on my Rossignol Caribou cross country skies on streets. 1983 – on a HIGH SCHOOL snow day classmate long a friend, did later become co-valedictorian of our class with another long a friend Stephen, and I agreed to a sledding day at Brewster hill of Edgerton Park. I having sanded down and painted my like SNURFER plank snow board with toe rope to probe performance did take it with me that day to also make day a brainstorming session on how we together could come up with a much better design to more fluidly like skateboard on snowy hills. Well David & I that day did effectively fully come up with the design that is now standard, and to with our innovative thinking of our hill was, but form many trees, naturally a half-pipe a valley we could mold into a full running half-pipe. David and I also while did come up with such down to many many details on that the ¼” thick fiberglass of his sailing dingy should be strong enough, of boards should be wide enough for feet skewed sideways and to bindings for boots like on his old pair of skies. Such involved also the consideration to have slightly concave sides and with metal edges could be sharpened. We also as seniors saw ourselves as too old to really enjoy being who did launch such concept, and too of that our fathers’ professions while top tier could undermine enthusiasm for, an active recreational and competitive sport. To be brief I learned of efforts to invent gear shifting integrated into brake levers, of yet “friend” didn’t know what to name his company if he ventured to develop inventions. Lars & I that day in many minutes did come up with SRAM as a possible company name for his friend. I’ll save details for later. I was taking it upon my self to independently support innovation for bicycling as a way to better encourage and support improved American performance in Tour d’ France. At age I realized I couldn’t train enough to compete myself I did – as crossed a LANCELOT COURT side street did start allowing my support to go as blessings to a younger a Lance (Armstrong) somewhere in his teens, who later had first pro racing team render his road bike colors to resemble my bike I mused support with considerations upon new and improved ways for forward. I did have to retort to color scheme to not be too close – to but put black patch on gray/silver on a different down tube.
I had met Eric Heiden racing at New Haven Columbus Day Bike Race and photographed him before later I such part of knowing US Cycling using ideas I had supported or the many I had independently suggested – for more gears, and to handlebars could have a flat section and better fit human hands.

Within a year I then incidentally coincidentally had befriended Joseph V. Connolly, Jr. in his 70s on Block Island, formerly of New Haven – so much his father had been in the first graduating class of in 1906 brand new Worthington Hooker School. Fascinating was his father is who ran Hearst at time William Randolph Hearst was counting as his last years – saved the company as he passed – shifted over to KING FEATURES for less stress – while yet died early – and as Jr. yet had his own big band BUD CONNOLLY AND HIS BAND gig as a drummer.
Through Joe and Violette Connolly, on Block Island in 1980s, as Violette transitioned from NBC retiring after was an executive hired, as couple, with my help, set up home into became the highly visible Bed & Breakfast named THE WHITE HOUSE, after her retirement from Brooklyn Botanical Gardens career as maybe bookkeeper, to at NBC to launch a new program for employees to be able to borrow against their retirement packages for mortgages and tuitions, I met a variety of dynamic successes in their 70s and 80s. Even John Hapgood an active illustrator published in THE NEWYORKER – whose father had managed Boston Braves when my own grandfather had been a young Boston sports writer before turned to marketing and advertising. Through Connollys I also met he had been Princess Grace’s personal photographer Howell Conant.
Joe – writing as of COMMENTS FROM A COTTAGER of column in Block Island Times did often mention me as a “summer son” those years I was rough and finish carpenter building homes in between school years. Joe – kept in contact with peers he knew at Hearst from his dad’s career. I do not know that I actually ever told him details of my “Citizen Rosebud” ambitions as it was to that someone would be outside of my learning and doing to maximize after Reagan Revolution how much positive change I could effect simultaneously.
1987-88 – As though I did take LSATS at Villanova and got into SUFFOLK UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL in Boston – then just behind the Massachusetts State House – I went more to make sure, while creative, that I didn’t want to become a lawyer. I recognized as sought to be creative and entrepreneurial that a year of legal disciplines should yet be worth at least taking a year inside to decide. While of that year I incidentally met Michelle Robinson (Obama) as also out in Harvard Square at Grendels – as she hosted her brother visiting from Chicago – I did yet give notice to withdraw using yet the option to remain an accepted student for the next 7 years – of only need submit notice without a need for a new full application process. The timing so is we met at least a couple years before Barack & she met in Chicago – while he did start at Harvard himself in 1988 that fall I drove a Villanova friend to UC to move him to start his PhD in Education.
1988 – As I withdrew and set to move back to Block Island to get another year of building experience I yet spirited requests to NBC towards getting shows created to help me manage the building dynamics of maintaining different circles of influence and differently towards finding and creating support for the innovations and excellence I was trying to bless developing numbers of people with of to be a rising tide attempting to better even Catholic Kennedy’s Camelot.
FRIENDS – for my tri-co-captains and High School circle including neighbors and youth group – of a female Geller and another swimmer David, archeology as but with a male to support female so seeking degrees, of 2 Matts to cover my younger brother with best pal Matt as under his father a Vet Psychiatrist also was George W. I had suggested after graduation they should think of me forward as their friend in New York even if I won’t be there for years.

1988-1989 – I worked as rough & finish carpenter – even to built much of 3 of then islands largest new prominent houses. I was seeking more island experience to move off in late 1989 to start my own remodeling enterprise in Connecticut. In keeping with ambition of “Citizen Rosebud” and of mentored by then by grandfather & Joseph Connolly, I, inspired by Reagan Revolution, was seeking to learn as many practical skills as quickly as possible and to shouldering the most amount of responsibility independently while so a sole-proprietor. The Eli Whitney Museum then starting up, and Rich Levin then Dean of Yale Economics department were 2 of my earliest clients.
As launched business as JP Hogan Enterprises as a CT S-Corp I also took to volunteering in New Haven as became of New Haven Jaycees, as helped build out exhibits at developing new museum for Eli Whitney on his old properties – even to restoration work on Whitney Barn – and I also took on Director of Operations – Support Services – seasonal leadership roles with New Haven Area Special Olympics, and later Connecticut Special Olympics.
As involved with Special Olympics I was part of training and leadership weekend events and there also interacted at times with Tim Shriver, but more to Sargeant and Eunice.
As Berlin Wall came down my ambitions of independently built up own thinking to how America if became a sole-superpower should behave – I was realizing with all the thought “experts” around in New Haven – and in news – that there was feeling like a vacuum of no one else had been adequately considering NEW WORLD ORDER in forward facing policy calculus. I started writing to New Haven Register editors to suggest guidance as well as I was seeing my dad as involved in redevelopment with the first black mayor of New Haven, a Villanova former track star, also not be seeing adequate news and stories to have support for improving New Haven. I started focusing my many years of independent thinking towards offered essentially marketing direction and as around my own community activites of I was offering a new and improved – was said POLITICAL CORRECTNESS – PC writing of a rhyme and reasoned. As months progressed – I had shifted to near a year as a door to door political canvasser with CCAG & ConnPIRG on clean air and healthcare issues awareness raising. It fit better my writing than still, as in recession, trying to keep contracting going as yet too distracting to doing the grander bigger thinking to fill what really seemed like a political vacuum across “experts” on where and how to proceed. I also reduced Special Olympics volunteering down to more just being a games evaluator. I did though as World Games coming spend some months heading up games preparations evaluations team.
With New York Times OP-ED columnists I usually used political poetry to communicate my spin doctoring suggestions to hopefully see such appreciated and then expressed one at a time by one of them.
Eventually Carville & Begala became who did test in Harris Wofford campaign in district Villanova of the essence and core strength of my guidance. And after that worked the Clintons did enter 1992 race late and learned enough to mimic my guidance to win 1992.

And while there I did reconnect in spirit with Anne Hearst as Amanda maybe near 6 years old, And then after I shared it with Rich Levin, as a client yet the Dean of Yale Economics with a technology focus, as he readied for Department summer picnic in his back yard. Levin went on to become after 1992 election the first Jewish President of Yale – serve 20 years, and now see his oldest son, of I had babysat for their children years earlier, become Stanford University current President.
But earlier, NBC – GE Jack Welch was a ready open ear of new and appreciated the shows linked to my personality and circles of friends. As especially I had to stand against IBM like supporting USA embracing Japanese management methods I could stir Welch to carry the fight to Business Roundtable. Of note though is from me he accepted being as appreciative while I independently freely providing valuable guidance that I expected him to help me protect my dad’s and sister Joan’s careers as being sensitive to ready to help protect them from others may try to welch on them. Of this I was pro-actively helping my dad and sister blind from them knowing – and as to work what I was doing I needed to counter and correct ahead of time them both of predictable regular mistakes of were not each as good as they thought themselves at yet what they undertook. Likewise, my dad was unaware of HARRY POTTER had been from me until after the last book when I proceeded to try to explain it to him – he who had lived and breathed the series since first introduced and seen became at least a better uncle to my cousins while so changed. Sadly dad became of a malpractice trigger when such mentioned due he in hindsight could see at least as per me he had made many many seriously bad decisions – much from unaware – but while too Joan was playing him to be favorited.
After 1992 win – but as far back as Democrats Convention the New York Times collaborators were made aware of that I was not going to seek work with Clinton admin.
Again of all this is sadly, as decades have proved me right, the Clintons won 1992 much on what I had come up with to yet protect nation and people from them – of the schemes they had made me aware of were unconstitutional and deplorable in theory. And by 1993 they were moving to steal from me and even attempt to bury me as if I couldn’t have been who had yet conceived and led such since 1989 – as from started near age 6 and had the necessary personality of suppressed social and personal for objectivity and intellectual.
By 1983 first semester at Villanova I had read all of Leon Uris novels, all of James Clavell novels, and all of Ayn Rands books. While had become over years already a photographer, bike mechanic, rough and finish carpenter, of a mechanical curiosity more of only addiction as but like was to buying tools – had basic plumbing and electrical skills.
